2027 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2027 Kia Sportage in Lisle, IL

It’s a battle of the most practical and technological features in this comparison between the 2027 Chevrolet Equinox and the 2027 Kia Sportage. Both of these compact SUVs have lineage that dates back to the 1990s and 2000s, respectively, and their friendly feud continues into their 2027 model years. The winner will be revealed at the end of this article, brought to you by Bill Kay Chevrolet, where we are passionate about making sure you love the next car you drive around Lisle with!
Performance
Let’s start by establishing some common ground between the Equinox and the Sportage. Both SUVs are engineered with an 8-speed automatic transmission, leading to little-to-no shift shock when you step on the gas pedal. But because Chevy’s model is able to make 175 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque from its 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, it’ll feel noticeably more peppy from a full stop compared to the Sportage’s 2.5L 4-cylinder powertrain. While it’ll get up to cruising speeds on Walter Payton Memorial Highway just fine, the 187 and 178 lb.-ft. of torque produced by the engine will feel more sluggish by comparison. What the Sportage lacks completely is the engine block heater found as standard equipment in the Equinox, which reduces how long the engine takes to warm up after a cold start.
Technology
The 2027 Kia Sportage may have the slightest advantage over the 2027 Chevrolet Equinox in terms of infotainment panel real estate due to its standard 12.3-inch touchscreen display1, however, its standard 4.2-inch TFT display2 leaves a lot to be desired. Compare that to Chevy’s SUV, which gives you a substantially larger 11.0-inch diagonal driver information center as standard equipment. Both SUVs can use their entertainment displays to help give you more confidence when backing into a parking spot at Tate Woods Park by providing a full view of the immediate area in real time. This is known as the 360-degree Surround View Monitor3 in Kia’s model and HD Surround Vision4 in the Equinox. You can get it as early as the base LX trim in Chevy’s vehicle, though it’s not available until you climb up to the midtrim and above for the Sportage.
Interior
Thanks to the Active Noise Cancellation technology in the Chevrolet Equinox, you won’t have to raise your voice nearly as much as you would in the Kia Sportage when you take a hands-free phone call on the highway. This technology uses counteractive frequencies to buffer any disruptive interior sounds, which you simply cannot get if you go for Kia’s vehicle. Another feature that the Sportage completely lacks is an interior camera that transforms the rearview mirror into a live look at what’s behind your car with just the push of a button. This is tech that is, once again, available as early as the Equinox’s base LT trim. Each SUV shares available faux-leather upholstery, though it’s slightly more stylized in Chevy’s car because it’s available with red accents. The Equinox is clearly on top in many aspects, so check out a few of our Chevy special offers on our website!
